The college is located at Manipal, an exclusive University town, also called an International Education Centre, because it offers almost every kind of professional and non-professional course. Manipal is located in the Udupi District of Karnataka, on the West Coast of India, 60 kms North of Mangalore, 330 kms south of Goa, 11 kms. off National Highway 17 connecting Kanyakumari to Mumbai. It is situated on a plateau commanding a panoramic view of the Arabia Sea on the West and the Western Ghats range on the East. The surroundings are picturesque, comprising of rural farm lands.

Muniyal Institute of Ayurveda Medical Sciences was established with a vision to impart the knowledge of Ayurveda to one and all. The Institution took its inspiration from Late Dr. U. Krishna Muniyal, an Ayurvedic practitioner for over 40 years, who established Muniyal Ayurveda in 1940.

The Muniyal Institute of Ayurveda Medical Sciences is sponsored by Dr. U. Krishna Muniyal Memorial Trust (R) and is located in a spacious 50,000 sq.ft. building, housing the Muniyal Ayurveda Hospital & Research Institute, a super-specialty ayurvedic hospital. Extensive practical training in the attached 150 bedded, Super Specialty Ayurvedic Hospital and the vast Herbal Gardens and intensive on-the-job training in the Medicine Manufacturing Unit.

The college intends to train the students in ayurveda by using modern scientific ways, so that they complete their course of study, they will be ready to face the challenges ahead without any setback. It will also encourage the students to involve themselves in ayurvedic research. The college, with its strategic location, is ready to take all the advantage available there for medical teaching and paramedical sciences.


Dr. M. Vijayabhanu Shetty, founded the Dr. U. Krishna Muniyal Memorial Trust (R) in the name of his father, Late Dr. U. Krishna, a freedom fighter who had practiced Ayurveda in Muniyal for forty years. Dr. M. Vijayabhanu Shetty, Managing Trustee, and the brain behind the Trust, started his career, with degrees in Ayurveda (BSAM & BAMS from Bangalore University), as a medical practitioner. Dr. Shetty started manufacturing and marketing ayurvedic medicines in 1985. His research products for diabetes, alcoholism, arthritis, cardiac problems, bronchitis, uterine & liver disorders, amoebiasis & obesity have proved to be very effective. He has presented papers on his products in many a seminars and conferences. Many articles have been published about his products and his organisation in leading newspapers and magazines of the country.


Our college is training students for the B.A.M.S degree course according to the syllabus of the Central Council of Indian Medicine, New Delhi. B.A.M.S. degree holders are eligible for registration at the Central or the State Ayurveda Boards. Their status is at par with any other Medical Graduate in India. They are also eligible for appointments in the Central or State Government Public Health and Ayurveda services. The admission capacity for this is 40 students.

It also offers M.D. Ayu. (Masters Degree in Rasa Shastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana) Rasashastra: This special branch of Ayurveda deals with various metals, minerals and herbo-mineral formulations and Bhaishajya Kalpana: This deals with the principals and methods related with the preparation of various medicinal formulations. The admission capacity for this is 5 students.


Admission to B.A.M.S. degree course is open to students who have passed second year of the Pre-University examination of the Karnataka P.U. Board or any other equivalent examination recognized by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects. The candidates should have obtained at least 50% marks in aggregate in the PCB optional in the second year of the PUC examination, or B.Sc. degree passed with CBZ combination with a minimum of 50% in average, in the optional subjects and must have studied Physics at PUC or equivalent. SC/ST candidates will be given a relaxation of 5 marks in the optional. Candidates seeking admission to the first year of the B.A.M.S. should have attained the age of 17 years on the date of admission.

The admission opens for M.D. Ayu. is B.A.M.S. degree with distinction.


The duration is 5 years for B.A.M.S. - 1st Professional Course - 18 months, 2nd Professional Course - 18 months, 3rd Professional Course - 18 months, and Internship - 12 months.

The duration is 3 years for M.D. Ayu.


We provide separate hostel facility for boys and girls with food.


Fee structure is according to the guidelines set by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore and students will be informed at the time of interview.


The college building includes a spacious and well-equipped computerized library, Anatomy Dissection Theater, physiology lab, staff-rooms, and conference & lecture halls. The institution has facilities for education through computers, multimedia and the Internet, which will ensure high-quality and up-to-date education in Ayurveda.

The trust opens for the career options after B.A.M.S. in Ayurvedic Clinics, Nursing Homes, Ayurvedic Hospitals, Ayurvedic Medicine manufacturing units, Cultivation of Herbal gardens by availing various schemes, Faculty in Ayurvedic Colleges.

I have been suffering from severe gastritis from many many years.After trying all possible treatment i came to Muniyal. The treatment here has helped me to a great extent.i am now much better , really recommend people to come here .

Impressive Ayurvedic college and hospital.Good environment for the students to study.The place provides a serene and tranquil atmosphere to the patients.I have been admitted twice here and i must say that the treatment is wonderful.Keep it up.

Being a regular patient of this hospital i can only wish that Muniyal great success.They have a great team of doctors and a good hospital environment.The medicines work wonderfully.I am a diabetic patient and have been regularly taking their product Insulin.It has given brilliant results.I recommend more people to avail their services

I passed my BAMS from this college and am very proud of the knowledge that i have received i am having my own clinic with good pt. Now people r educated and they know the benifits of ayurvedic medicines.

hospital is good though no patient, its just to earn and trap young kids in the name of making them doctors. how many of us go to ayurvedic practitioner for checkups ? chairman just traps young kids to make money. its a big damn business in karnataka.
if u wanna spoil ur son / daughters life do send them here for a worthless degree.
This degree is a waste of time and will definately leave u nowhere like i am now.

....they dont have hostel they provide rooms in special wards in their hospital itself were patients stay,secondly we need patients for practical examination but no patients even come near hospital,even though it has many beds one single patient u will not find.And some teachers are good but some others will sit in the office room and start to chat using fb..
