The center has special interest in rasayana (rejuvenation therapy). Different Kerala special treatments like takradhara, thalapothichil, and navarakizhi are also performed as per patients' needs.
Poonthottam Ayurvedasram was founded by Dr.P.M.S.Raveendranath. He was born in a Namboothiri family of central Kerala. He is the Chief Physician of this centre. He gained a strong foothold in Ayurveda and other related disciplines. His aim was to develop a centre for Ayurvedic treatment procedures as he strongly believed that treatment methods like Sodhana (elimination) and Rasayana (rejuvenation) did not get enough attention and could not be done in the out patient clinics or at home. Raveendranath's intention was to create a complete centre, which is self-reliant for practice, research and training in Ayurveda. His steady and sustained efforts in this direction finally bore fruit. Through establishment of this centre, he proved that dedication and hard work could benefit any sincere aspiration. We strongly feel that the physician has to actively involve in therapeutic procedures like oil treatments. This helps a physician to go into depth of a patient's suffering.
We provide staying facilities to the patients. All the rooms are connected with intercom facility. Internet facility is also available in the centre.
A canteen in the campus provides organic vegetarian food for the patients according to physicians' advice on dietary requirements (Pathya). Food is taken from their own garden. We served nightshades, but not white sugar and chilli.
The cost of treatment would be Rs.2800 per day which includes food accommodation and treatment charges.
There is no air and noise pollution in the surrounding area which is in deep forest surrounding of natural herbs.
Poonthottam Ayurvedashram is constructed with the ancient vedic architect of the Kerala.
I had my treatment over here. To my woner I found that this is the only centre which is practicing actually according to ancient vedic text of ayurveda. I was so amazed with the vicinity. It has totally natural surroundings away from polloution and crowd. Located in deep forest where you found natural herbs all around. When you enter in to the ashram you feel positive vibration of the healing universe.
Dr. Ravi himself is committed to the ayurveda research and the charges are very nominal. Out of this charge major junk of amount goes to charity like treatment of the poor people & preparing good quality of herbal products according to classical texts. In total this is a genuine place which is not a tourist attraction, spa or money making machine but a true ayurvedic hospital where team of dedicated doctors themself take care of the patients and you are not in the hands of un-experienced technicians.
Dr. Ravis main message to his team is that true ayurvedic treatment can be only done effectively if physician himself take care of the patient and feel his body. He talks always about healing with touch. Moreover every month special pooja is performed according to traditional system of vedas for the quick & effective healing & wellbeing of the patients and to give feeling of peace & wellbeing all around. A canteen in the campus provides vegetarian food for the patients according to physiciansadvice on dietary requirements (Pathya) – By Yogeet Kapoor.
Around 250 formulations are being prepared here with the help of around 15 fulltime staff members working here. Idea of starting a production unit was to make good medicines. More than 50 medicinal plants are collected from nearby areas in bulk providing a substantial income to the plant collectors of this area. Other materials required for preparation of medicines are obtained from the local market.
