LOCATION:
The College is located approximately 14 kms in NS direction from Ranchi Railway Station and approx 12 kms from Ranchi Airport, on a beautiful patch of land, full of gardens and greens, which protect it from direct sunrays, flying dust particles and far from industrial belt. It is situated on NH 33.
Since, the beginning of 1990, it was evident that Ranchi would become the capital city. It is situated in the State Jharkhand. It is India's 28th State with a geographical area of 7971400 hectares and covers forest area of 1842343 hectares. Ranchi city saw a sudden spurt in two sector-education & health. Jharkhand is slowly moving ahead towards realization of its dreams as far as providing medical scenario to the masses concerned. Ranchi, once the summer capital of Bihar, is a popular retreat and cultural point of Chotanagpur. It is situated 650m above mean sea level. Ranchi is surrounded by forests and covered with bushes, trees and beautiful flowers. It is famous for waterfalls situated in its vicinity. It is located approximately 1400 km South East of Delhi and 400 km South-West of Calcutta. Ranchi is a small city and life becomes quiet after late evening. The State Government is committed to give a new dimension to the Medical education. The Government plans to develop Medical Colleges of the state as independent Institutions for making available better treatment facilities to the masses.
ABOUT THIS COLLEGE:
Suryamukhi Dinesh Ayurved Medical College, a unique pioneer Institution of its nature, commonly known as S.D. Ayurved Medical College is a statutory body established in the year 1980 in the name of the great Scholar of the time Prof. Dinesh Prasad Pandey and his wife Suryamukhi Devi. It is only one of its kind in the Jharkhand. It is affiliated to Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. The college is also approved by the Central Council of Indian Medicine, Department of I.S.M., Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, government of India.
The college is connected with Dipatoli Army Camp and Shivaji Chowk, Booty More in Northern direction, BIT Mesra & Apollo Hospital in south direction. The conveyance for the College is easily available from any part of the city.
The degree of Ayurvedacharya, B.A.M.S is recognized by Central Council of Indian Medicine (C.C.I.M.), New Delhi & Dept. of AYUSH, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, government of India. The degree of Ayurvedacharya, B.A.M.S. is recognised throughout the nation. Students who are awarded degree of B.A.M.S. from Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribagh (Jharkhand) and have completed there internship with the College Hospital can be registered in any State Ayurvedic Council as a Ayurvedic Medical Practitioner in Para 'A'. They are also eligible for M.D./M.S. Ayurved, Post-graduate course in any University.
GOAL OF THIS COLLEGE:
The main aim of the college is to produce Bachelors in the field of Ayurved so that they can work as competent Ayurvedic Medical Practitioners. They can involve themselves in the research work pertaining to Ayurvedic medicine of international repute & general welfare of the people, also to provide awareness, basic knowledge & skill in the field of Ayurveda. To impart a comprehensive training in enforcement practices as well as laboratory works & to provide traditional pharmaceutical work in Bhaishajya Kalpana Department to the students. To spread the technical know-how regarding plantation of medicinal and aromatic plants in qualitative approach.
COURSE OFFERED:
B.A.M.S. - Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (Ayurvedacharya)
ELIGIBILITY:
Candidate must have passed I.Sc.(Biology) or 10+2 from recognized University or Board. Candidates having other qualifications as per C.C.I.M. will be preferred eg. Uttar Madhyama done from Sanipurnanand Sanskrit University Varanasi (PCB, English) or equivalent Educational Qualification from Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University will be preferred.
An Entrance examination is being conducted by the college authority for the applicants of the B.A.M.S. course. Admission will be given as per the merit list. In appearing years the candidate should not be less than 17 years of age.
DURATION:
41/2 + 1 year compulsory internship.
FACULTY:
The college is well equipped with reputed highly qualified and experienced faculty members, sophisticated equipments and other necessary facilities to enable it to function effectively in the field of Ayurveda. It also has attached Hospital. There is a Council of professors to advice in educational matters. It has the following Functions.

ACCOMMODATION:
The college provides accommodation with modest furniture and fittings. It is surrounded by green trees, gardens and sprawling lawns. A few indoor and outdoor games are provided to the students for recreational activities. Water supply, power, security, well build roads are salient features. Emphasis on sanitation, hygiene and maintenance is being given by the concerned authority. Separate accommodation for girls & boys under the guidance of resident female & male hostel warden are managed simultaneously with 24 hrs. power supply.
FOOD:
The hostel canteen is being run by the college authority. The menu is being fixed by the students themselves. The quality of food is excellent.
FEE PARTICULARS:
The Management Committee of the college decides the fee structure regarding Tuition fee, Admission fee, Registration fee etc. The information will be given to the students before admission.
HOSPITAL:
Mana Devi Laxman Memorial Hospital is attached with S.D. Ayurved Medical College. Each & every clinical departments are separately run by individual heads with assisting co-staff. This reputed Hospital is in existence since last 28 years and it has earned its own repute. The Hospital has all basic facilities like Operation Theatre (Major/Minor), Labour Room, ICU Unit, Casualty, OPD, General Ward, X-ray, Pathology, Ambulance etc.
Department of Shalya is fully developed & equipped to meet the operational requirement of surgical nature such as General Surgery, Kshar-sutra, Agnikarma & Anorectal surgery. The Hospital has well maintained Panchakarma Therapy Unit. Under the umbrella of Panchkarma Chikitsa department most of the chronic diseases are being treated. The equipment mentioned in ancient & traditional methods is adopted in Panchkarma therapy unit after developing with modern technique.
OTHER FACILITIES:
The college offers scholarship to the students under different bilateral and multilateral agreements, schemes, plans etc., under certain specialties. The college provides railway concession to the regular students in vacations. For the physical fitness of the students sports facilities like Badminton, Table-tennis, Volley Ball, football & Cricket have been incurred in campus for boys and girls separately. College Bus is always available in college campus for daily conveyance purpose and outdoor excursion/ medicinal tour. These facilities are available in the campus round the clock. According B.A.M.S. syllabus & C.C.I.M quality norms, the college has all the necessary equipments. The Laboratory is furnished with all modern & traditional models Microscopes, Slides & Informative charts.
In the premises itself a beautiful Herbal Garden has been maintained. In the garden nearly 350 medicinal as well as Aromatic plants have been developed and approx. 100 medicinal plants are maintained in the earthen pot. Many more rare medicinal and herbal seedlings are in the process of development. It has been very ornamentally planted in the premises for the thorough knowledge of the scholars. This herbal gardenia is being recognized as one of the most valuable asset of Jharkhand state as well as a mile stone in itself. The library cum Reading room of the college is well furnished with variety of books on Ayurveda and modern Scientific Techniques. Books, Journals and magazines related to Ayurveda are available for study. The total number of books for different departments is 5000 (approx).
An Ayurvedic Pharmacy is situated in the Hospital campus for manufacturing of Ayurvedic medicines. Students are imparted practical knowledge for preparation of Ayurvedic medicine which is based on traditional & modern methods. It has a big well equipped seminar hall with 250 seating capacity along with modern technology like LCD Projector, Overhead Projector, slide Projector with computers.
Basic clinical training course and its enforcement regarding awareness in Ayurved practice. It gives Special Training program for shorter duration to help the poor in adjacent area. Workshops & Seminars on important topics of Ayurveda are being conducted in campus by dignified personalities. Expert Services related with Health Mela, Shivirs and Free Medical Camps in remote areas of Jharkhand.
