ABOUT THIS COLLEGE:

Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College was founded by the late Ashtavaidyan E.T. Neelakandan Mooss on 2nd October 1976 and is under the management of Vaidyaratnam Ayurvedic Educational Society, registered under the Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act. The College is affiliated to the Calicut University.

Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College is an outstanding institution in terms of academic excellence and achievements. The various departments and affiliated facilities, besides providing ample academic inputs, also contribute towards research that is on par with international standards. The Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College and hospitals are part of the legendary Vaidyaratnam Group established in the Ashtavaidya tradition of Ayurveda.

The candidate shall be awarded Ayurvedaachaarya (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) degree after completion of prescribed courses of study extending over the prescribed period and passing the final examination and satisfactory completion of one year compulsory internship after the final examination.

FOUNDER:

Sri .E.T. Neelakandan Mooss hailed from the Eledath Thaikkattu Mooss family of Thaikkattussery, Thrissur. His father Sri Narayanan Mooss was a renowned practitioner and was bestowed the title "Vaidyaratnam" by the then Viceroy of India. Sri Neelakandan Mooss took to Ayurveda and started the Vaidyaratnam Oushadhashala in 1941. In his continued efforts to enhance the reach of Ayurveda, he founded the Vaidyaratnam Nursing Home, Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College and Ayurvedic Research Centre. Under his sustained efforts, Vaidyaratnam Group soon became a celebrated tradition in the history of Ayurveda. He was honoured with the prestigious national award, "Padmashree" by the Government of India in the year 1992.

COURSE OFFERED:

We offer B.A.M.S. degree (Ayurveda acharya). The course is recognized by the Central Council of Indian Medicines (CCIM).  The numbers of seats available are 40 students per year.

ELIGIBILITY:

Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination of the Board of Higher Secondary Education, Kerala or the examination recognized equivalent thereto with 50% marks in Biology separately and 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology put together, are eligible. The applicant should have completed an age of 17 years on the date of admission.

DURATION:

The duration of the course is 51/2 years – I Professional – 18 months, II Professional – 18 months, III Professional – 18 months and Internship – 12 Months.

FACULTY:

Dr. (Mrs.) P.V. Prasanna is the Principal of the College. She is the Chief Academic and Administrative Head of the College. Principal is in charge of all academic, research, curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities of the College and is the Chief Liaison in the University. The faculties are here received many awards for their research.

ACCOMMODATION:

We provide separate hostels for boys and girls are provided in the campus.

OTHER FACILITIES:

The College has got 13 teaching departments which awaits final approval of the Government. Establishment of a separate department for Panchakarma is under the active consideration of the authorities. Brief report highlighting the activities of each department is available here.

There is a central Library attached to the College having an exhaustive collection of more than 8000 books including some of the rarest books in Ayurveda. The Library is in the process of digitalization. The Library has also attached broadband internet facilities for the use of students and teaching faculties. Space is provided for the review of current National and International Journals. In addition to the Central Library, all the departments are provided with department libraries.

Herbal garden of medical plants is a pre-requisite for identifying medical herbs by students and teachers. A herbal garden with a collection of about 1000 medicinal plants of about 200 different species, among which even exotic red listed medicinal plants of endangered nature is kept and maintained in the College Campus.

Adequate facilities are provided in the campus for promoting extra curricular activities which include sports and games.
