If planning to go for Panchakarma, the week or two before take extra care not to eat any heavy food or meals late at night. By taking light foods like mung dal and basmati rice with vegetables you will prepare the body for this beautiful cleansing process.
Panchakarma is the best holiday you can take for mind, body and soul. It cleanses the physiology on all levels and thus increases your capacity to be happy. It prevents many diseases by removing the root of disease.
Charaka says of all the treatments in Ayurveda Basti comprises the main component. By cleansing the colon and then applying herbal medicines there that nourish and heal the colon and improve its absorptive power we nourish the entire body. Charaka gives the analogy of nourishing a tree by its roots to get good flower, leaves and fruit.
After Panchakarma take extra care to rest and avoid physical or mental stress. The ancient texts advise us to avoid extreme weather, too much talking, walking long distances, heavy food or any activity that is not pleasing to the senses. The body needs time to regenerate.
Yellow split mung beans are praised in ayurvedic texts for their nutritional value and ease of digestion.
Eat in a calm and peaceful atmosphere without rushing.

Try to choose land that slopes N or E or NE for ideal peaceful and prosperous living.
Take a short gentle walk after lunch to improve digestion and assimilation of food. Moderate excercise is always a panacea for digestion.
For a simple and effective detox drink 4-6 cups of hot water (filtered or mineral) when thirsty throughout the day!
Always try to eat freshly cooked food which is high in intelligence and prana - avoid microwave, canned, frozen or re-heated food which weakens the digestion!
Herbal chai tea (cinnamon, cardamon, ginger, clove, black pepper and saffron) is amazing in winter to prevent coughs and colds.
Papaya taken after a meal is an excellent boost for digestion and immunity!
Sip hot ginger water made with feshly grated ginger after meals to increase Agni (digestive fire) and for more energy and better immunity!
